"Do you know when you'll be speaking to the Haim sisters?" an inquiry reads. "I was hoping to ask if I can join as their extra sister."

However, there remains a single issue: The author likewise longs to be the Haims' newest recruit. Furthermore, we are not alone. A host of celebrated supporters have openly petitioned for the role.

It's clear an irresistible appeal is going on. Sisters Este, Danielle and Alana began their path doing sets at local delicatessens with their parents. Presently, they stand as multi-time Grammy nominees.

Similar to the most iconic bands, they're a close gang. Their visuals frequently depict them walking in harmony down the avenues of Los Angeles. During performances, they jam with such pure happiness you can't help but think, "I'd love to be a piece of that, too."

"The numerous instances on tour that audience members approached us and said, 'After your show, I got a bass'," remarks Alana, the youngest of the sisters. "It is the ultimate honour. That's an award in itself. We have succeeded if we can inspire people to make music."

"And thus everyone are welcome to be the fourth member of Haim."

Award Recognition

The group are connecting from home, where they're recovering after an major tour in support of their fourth album, I Quit.

They're presently processing the news it's been nominated for a top rock honor at the Grammys – with Haim the first all-woman band ever in the running for the trophy.

"I watch the nominations every year, so it almost feels like The Truman Show when your name is announced," says Alana. "I immediately called my sisters to say, 'Did I hear this correctly or am I hallucinating'?"

The weight of the nomination is deeply felt by the sisters.

"We truly set out to make a guitar-driven album this time, so it's a major achievement," continues Alana. "However we're just thankful for the female artists that came before us."

Emotional Upheaval and Laughter

The album came out of a time of personal change. All three sisters ended up single, and the music explores that unique transitional period where you're relieved to be free, but not yet ready to start anew.

The lyrics follow breakups and farewells. The sisters want love, but not the kind of love they've got. You can hear them determining in real time who they aspire to be.

"That's a perfect description, yes," agrees Danielle. "I Quit is like a slogan. You have to actively work on ignoring the noise and saying, 'I don't give what people think'."

Refinement of Style

That newfound resilience called for a new sound – more organic and powerful than any of the music the band had done before.

For Danielle, who worked on producing the album, that started with the drum sound.

"The drum sound is such a nuanced thing, and I focus so intensely about it," she states.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the subject of our memoir," jokes Alana. "I always say, our albums cannot begin until we find the perfect drum sound."

Experiences and Collective Camaraderie

The trio's openness inspired the album's marketing, where the sisters shared some of their romantic horror stories.

Someone left Este over a health consideration. Alana recalled a story of flying to celebrate New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a high five at midnight.

"Experiencing these breakups, you just feel like there's no hope," says Alana. "So to be able to find humor in those stories and have them tell you even crazier stories, it's incredible."

A Secure Future

It's not difficult sense a change in the band. Today, Haim are more certain of their place in the industry.

They're top-billed acts, with successful albums and an international fan base.

However the band will consistently be their primary priority.

"My sisters and I have been playing music since I was four," concludes Alana. "There is no other path that we were meant to do. And I'm really grateful we've reached this point and we're still going strong."
